Rep. Ezell: SAVE Act ‘very important to our elections’

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a new voter ID bill, called the SAVE America Act.
It would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote or casting ballots in federal elections.
The bill now heads to the Senate.
Democrats say it will disenfranchise voters, but Republicans, like Mississippi 4th District Republican Representative Mike Ezell, say the legislation is needed.
“We have to show ID to get on an airplane, there so many things, if you want to purchase a firearm, you’ve got to show your ID,” Ezell said.
“What is the difference in showing your ID for a federal election, not state, a federal election and there’s just absolutely no reason for it. I don’t know, I hope we can get that moved out, it’s very important to our elections.”
The vote in the House was 218-213.
Ezell visited William Carey University and Southern Miss on Friday.
